Bluetti EB150 vs Jackery 1000: Which Solar Generator Is Best?

Bluetti eb150 vs Jackery 1000

The age of affordable and reliable home power stations is upon us, and two companies at the forefront of this exciting innovation are Bluetti and Jackery.

These manufacturers have been providing people with access to clean, renewable energy for some years now. With the world seeming less stable each day, people see the need to generate their own electricity at home and not rely on municipal supply.

In this article, we’ll compare two generators from Jackery and Bluetti and see how they fare against each other. If you’re still struggling to pick out the best option for you, check out our FAQ section at the end where we answer some more of your questions.

A power station with high capacity can make the difference between a decent generator and a great one. Capacity is the measurement of energy that a battery can store which can later be used to power electronic devices.

A battery’s capacity is measured in Watt-hours (Wh). To figure out how much power an appliance uses, we need to know what its wattage is. A ceiling fan, for example, is rated at 120W.

This means that in one hour of continuous use, it will consume 120Wh of electricity.

The Bluetti EB150 has a capacity of 1,500Wh. This is more than enough to keep most small electronics fully charged for your weekend camping trip. It’s also enough to keep some larger appliances running if your home power cuts out.

At 1,500Wh, the Bluetti eb150 is one of the biggest portable power stations on the market. With this capacity, the eb150 could run a microwave oven for an hour and still have some juice leftover.

The Jackery 1000 is 500Wh smaller than the eb150, but that’s still plenty for camping and vanning. The same oven from the previous example could be powered for an hour, but this would deplete the battery.

Comparing the capacity of the two generators directly, the Bluetti eb150 comes out on top.

Solar Charging

Bluetti eb150 vs Jackery 1000

Being able to power your home with free energy from the sun is one of the key selling points of portable power stations. Both the Bluetti eb150 and the Jackery 1000 are compatible with solar charging, but how do they compare to each other?

The Jackery 1000 is designed to work with 2 SolarSaga photovoltaic cells. In ideal conditions, these solar panels can generate 100W each, fully charging the device in just over 5 hours.

In reality, though, the panels rarely reach that output. The average power output for SolarSaga panels is anywhere between 60W and 80W. This will charge your Jackery from 0% to full in around 10 hours.

The Bluetti eb150 was also built with solar charging in mind. Unlike the Jackery, the eb150 is compatible with almost any solar panels, as long as they don’t exceed 500W power total.

Bluetti and Jackery both use advanced MPPT charge controllers in their generators. These controllers regulate the amount of power the generator draws from connected solar panels, increasing efficiency and extending battery life.

Although they’re based on similar technology, Bluetti’s MPPT controller is more sophisticated than its competitor. In comparison to Jackery’s 10-hour charge-time, the eb150’s improved efficiency can charge the device in under 4 hours in good weather.

Power Outlets

As important as battery capacity and charging capabilities are, a generator is only as good as the number of devices it can power.

There are a number of factors that determine how many devices you can power at once, but the biggest limiting factor is the number of outlets on the battery.

The Bluetti eb150 has 2 110V AC power outlets. These are the standard 3-prong power sockets that larger appliances like fridges and TVs run from.

In addition to the 2 AC outlets, the eb150 has 4 USB ports which can be used for smaller electronics like cellphones and tablets.

Jackery gave their portable generator a few more power outlets. The Jackery 1000 has 3 110V AC power outlets, which immediately puts it ahead of its competition.

On top of the extra AC outlets, the Jackery has a better selection of USB charging ports. There are 4 USB ports in total. Of the 4 outlets, 2 are standard USB outlets (one of them is 3.0 quick charge). The remaining 2 outlets are USB-C for newer devices.

The Jackery also has a 12V DC car outlet, so you can charge your generator in your car while you drive.

At first glance, there may not seem to be much difference in the number and type of power outlets on each battery. However, the few extra outlets show that Jackery paid more attention to the versatility of their device, which is why it’s the winner.

Bluetti EB150 or Jackery 1000

We’ve gone over some of the key selling points of the two generators, but there are some important details that make a big difference.

In this section, we’ll briefly review the Bluetti eb150 and Jackery 1000 to find out which one will work best for you.

Bluetti EB150

Bluetti eb150

The Bluetti eb150 and the larger eb240 were released by MaxOak in 2019. Aimed at providing renewable energy at a reasonable price, the Bluetti relies on its sleek design and high capacity to attract customers.

The sturdy metal and plastic frame is highly durable. The generator can survive some pretty harsh punishment, making it a great investment for bringing power to the great outdoors.

However, it’s highly susceptible to water damage. At this price, some sort of splash protection would have been appreciated so you wouldn’t have to panic at the faintest hint of rain.

The eb150 utilizes its smart MPPT technology to charge rapidly from photovoltaic cells. But if it’s cloudy or raining, you’re going to need to charge it from another source. This is one area where the eb150 falls short.

Plugged into an AC wall socket, the Bluetti eb150 will take nearly 10 hours to reach 100% charge from 0%. If you’re looking for a generator that you can take on an adventure at the drop of a hat, this may not be for you.

  • Lightweight, modern design.
  • High capacity keeps devices powered for longer.
  • Efficient solar charging.

  • Slow AC charging.
  • Limited power output.

Jackery 1000

Jackery 1000

Like the eb150, the Jackery 1000 was built with durability in mind. The generator itself is less attractive than the eb150, but what it lacks in looks it makes up for in being close to indestructible.

The solid metal frame with rubber edging means you can practically drop it out of a window and it will still run fine.

On top of this, the battery has impressive surge protection of 2,000W. This means the battery will survive most things short of being hit by lightning.

The Jackery generator uses a number of clever onboard battery regulators to improve the overall efficiency and usability of the device.

Short circuit protection and over-voltage protection keep the battery from burning out and keep the battery alive for longer.

In addition to these measures, the generator uses a patented Battery Management System (BMS). This system allows the generator to charge fairly quickly when drawing power from an AC outlet, fully charging in a little over 7 hours.

  • Completely emission-less and silent operation.
  • Good value for money.
  • Very durable.

  • Limited solar compatibility.
  • Diminished capacity.

Bluetti EB150 vs Jackery 1000 FAQ

Is Bluetti EB150 better than Jackery 1000?

Yes and no. Despite the fact that the two generators are marketed to do similar things, there is enough difference between them to make both a worthwhile purchase.

If you have the extra $300 and need 500Wh more capacity, the Bluetti eb150 is the generator for you.

However, the Jackery is cheaper and the 1,000Wh capacity is more than enough for most needs. It also has more power outlets, which makes it a more versatile option.

How long does a Jackery 1000 last?

The Jackery’s battery life is rated at 80% at 500 full charge cycles. This means that after fully charging and discharging the battery 500 times, it will only hold 80% of its original capacity (~800Wh).

The Bluetti eb150 is rated at 1,500 full charge cycles for 60% capacity. So after around 3 years of consistent use, the generator’s capacity will be around 900Wh.

Is a portable power station worth it?

Yes, yes, and yes.

If recent events have shown us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t get comfortable with modern conveniences. From extreme weather events to rampant wildfires to looming climate crises, there are many things that threaten our comfortable existence.

A portable power station is a great way to give yourself peace of mind in troubling times. And with so many great options on the market, from Jackery to the Bluetti eb150 to the EcoFlow Delta, there’s doubtless something to suit your needs.
