Looking for a basic home backup system and was looking at the 16kw package with 12k eg4 inverter. Wondering how long the battery would power Sammet house? Gas stove, hot water heater and 3 ton 22seer variable speed heat pump.

Hi Jon, How long it lasts depends mostly on how hard your heat pump runs, so we can't give one number yet, but here's how to work it out. Run time in hours is about 85% of the 16kWh battery divided by your average household draw in watts. For example, a fridge cycling at about 65W would run for around 209 hours on its own (16,000Wh x 0.85 / 65W), and an average whole-house load of 1,000W would give about 13.6 hours. The 3 ton variable speed heat pump will be your biggest load, and its draw changes a lot with outdoor temperature and how hard it's working. If you can share its running watts or amps from the nameplate, plus anything else you'd want powered during an outage, our team can give you a solid estimate. The EG4 12kPV is rated for 8,000W continuous output and runs 120V and 240V appliances, including 240V air conditioning units.
