Get to Know Your Top Solar Brands: Mammoth

Short on Time? Here’s The Article Summary

Mammoth is a new player in solar battery technology, offering lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries known for their safety, longevity, and power output. Mammoth's batteries are priced competitively compared to other brands and offer high capacity and reliability.

Their key products, the RE Plus and RE Pro, offer 9.6 kWh and 23.5 kWh capacities respectively, with the RE Pro being one of the largest single batteries on the market. Mammoth batteries are also backed by a 10-year warranty and offer local US-based support, making them a reliable choice for off-grid or backup power systems. Compared to competitors like HomeGrid Stack'd, Mammoth offers similar or better capacity and watt-hours at a lower price point, making them a strong contender in the solar battery market. If you're looking for an affordable, reliable, and powerful battery, Mammoth is a top choice.

Introduction

What has two hands and a face and is only ever right twice a day? A clock with no battery. OK, we know you're not here for the terrible jokes. But batteries are incredibly important, which is why we want to talk about the new kid on the block in solar battery technology: Mammoth.

If you are just starting your solar journey, you've probably wondered what you are supposed to do when the sun goes down or stops shining. Well, you have two options: you can trust the grid to keep the lights on or you can store power in batteries. Because the grid is so unreliable, more and more people choose the battery option. You can keep all of the excess power you produce in a battery bank, so you can stay connected when the sun or the grid goes down!

If you want a battery that gives you more bang for your buck, the Mammoth RE solar battery line should be your first choice. They are reliable, powerful, and extremely well-priced. Let's get to know them better.

What Makes Mammoth Special?

Mammoth's secret ingredient is its lithium iron phosphate (LFP/LiFePO4) battery cells. They are among the cheapest on the market but have a ton of benefits compared to lithium-ion batteries.

  • Safety: LiFePO4 batteries are considered one of the safest lithium-ion battery chemistries available. They have excellent thermal stability and are highly resistant to thermal runaway, which is the uncontrolled increase in temperature that leads batteries to fail. This means your odds of fire are lower.
  • Longevity and cycle life: LiFePO4 batteries have an extended cycle life compared to many other lithium-ion battery types. They can endure thousands of charge-discharge cycles without capacity degradation, which makes them perfect for powering electric vehicles (EV) charging stations and energy storage systems (ESS).
  • High power density: LiFePO4 batteries can deliver high levels of power output. They have a high discharge rate capability and can handle high current demands without experiencing a significant voltage drop.
  • Good temperature tolerance: LiFePO4 batteries perform well in high and low-temperature conditions, which means they will work well in different climates and environments.
  • Environmental friendliness: LiFePO4 batteries are considered more environmentally friendly compared to other lithium-ion battery chemistries. They don't contain heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, or mercury, which are harmful to the environment. They are also easy to recycle.

See why we love LFPs? Mammoth has more to offer, though, including:

Price

Mammoth's 48V battery is going to set you back $11,489. Is it cheap? Nope. But a 48V eVault Max with 5,000 fewer watt hours and less capacity will set you back $11,570. A HomeGrid Stack'd system with 4,000 fewer watt hours and less capacity costs even more at $12,200. The Tesla Powerwall is the only comparable product that's cheaper, but it offers the lowest capacity of all of them and 10,000 fewer watt-hours, and Tesla comes with its own issues as well.

Size

The Mammoth Pro is the biggest single battery on the market. Bigger is better when it comes to batteries. The bigger the battery, the bigger, the more energy you can store. Most competitors increase their capacity by stacking single batteries together. While this does mean you have more storage capacity and watt-hours at your disposal, you also have more points of failure. If you want reliability, a single battery is the key.

Local Support

Mammoth offers local US-based support. This may not seem like a big thing, but as a one-stop solar supplier, we've spent countless hours on the phone with China, India, and Timbuktu. There are time zone differences, connectivity issues, language barriers, and just general frustration all around at times. That is assuming that the supplier has any kind of support at all. With Mammoth, an actual human being will pick up and help you should you run into any issues. Which you really shouldn't because Mammoth batteries are backed with a 10-year warranty and are very reliable.

What are Mammoth's key products?

Mammoth has two key products, the RE Plus, and the RE Pro.

Mammoth RE PLUS

Mammoth RE Plus

The Mammoth RE Plus comes with a 9.6 kWh capacity that can easily handle your overflow or emergency power. It can also be a great product to start with when you are busy building an off-grid system. It weighs about 220 pounds but has wheels, so it's easy enough to move around.

Mammoth RE PRO

Mammoth RE Pro

If you are ready to get serious about going off-grid, this is the only battery you'll need. It has a very generous 23.5 kWh capacity which can keep an entire house powered and then some. You can string up to eight of these together to store even more. Be warned: this one weighs a whopping 465 pounds which can be tricky to maneuver, but again, it has wheels, so you don't have to worry about heavy lifting.

How Does Mammoth Stack Against the Competition?

Mammoth is a relative newcomer to the solar battery market, but it's hard to beat. The RE PRO has a capacity of 23.5kWh, which compares favorably to its closest competitor, the HomeGrid Stack'd battery's 19.2kWh model. The RE PRO will give you a whopping 23,500 watt hours compared to HomeGrid's 19,200-watt hours.

It's bigger than HomeGrid's 48V battery, but it's about 45 pounds lighter and $2400 cheaper. HomeGrid Stack'd can stack up to ten units max compared to the Mammoth RE PRO's eight, but because Mammoth outperforms the Stack'd in terms of capacity and watt-hours, this isn't really a disadvantage.

Both are high-quality and come with very attractive 10-year warranties, but the RE PRO definitely offers more value for money.

Who is Mammoth For?

If you are looking for an affordable, reliable, and powerful battery, Mammoth really stands head and shoulders above the crowd. Whether you want to go completely off-grid or just want a reliable backup power source, you can't go wrong with this brand.
