Introduction
EcoFlow is a well-known and highly reliable solar company. They started off producing portable power stations but have since expanded into other areas, including appliances. While they haven't released any new generators in a while, their Delta series has stood the test of time and is still a great buy for anyone that needs home or backup power.
Let's take a closer look at EcoFlow and its products.
About EcoFlow
EcoFlow was launched by a group of battery engineers in San Jose in 2017. Their co-founders are entrepreneurs Eli Harris, who is also the CEO, and their current COO, Hannah Sieber. The company says that its vision is to "power a new world" and help homeowners make the transition from outdated power to more sustainable alternative sources.
Today, EcoFlow products are available in over 100 countries and in more than 2 million homes and businesses. The company is valued at over $1 billion as of 2021.
What is EcoFlow known for?
The company hasn't come up with any big new innovations lately, but its Delta series was a ground-breaker when it launched. It was the first portable home battery designed for home backup which enabled the world's first home power ecosystems, hence the name EcoFlow. They were also the first portable power stations that could be recharged at EV stations around the globe.
What are EcoFlow's key products?
EcoFlow has expanded its product range considerably, but the Delta Pro and Delta 2 are the main stand-outs.
Delta 2
At just $1,000, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better power station than the Delta 2 at a better price. The Delta 2 was upgraded from previous models thanks to its lithium iron phosphate battery cells, which pushed the number of charge cycles from 800 to 3,000.
The solar ports are based on the XT60 connector, so you can hook up solar panels if you want. Word of caution, though: the Delta 2's limit is around 500 watts, so check your voltage carefully before connecting your solar panels. When it's plugged into an AC power outlet, you can fully charge your Delta 2 in about an hour and a half.
You can also connect a second 1,000Wh or 2,000Wh battery to the unit for extra capacity using a port.
Historically, there have been a lot of customer complaints about the fan noise at high charge and discharge rates, but EcoFlow has addressed this with some firmware updates, so you don't have to worry about it unless you've bought one on the secondhand market.
The EcoFlow Delta Pro
The EcoFlow Delta Pro was released in 2021, and it's a great emergency power solution. You can use this baby to power your RV, your boat, or even a small cabin. Best of all, you can charge it at any EV charging station and connect it to a whole range of different solar panels, perfect for those situations where you need a lot of power on the go.
You get 3600W of output power, 3500 charge cycles, and 3600-watt hours, a 3600Wh LiFePO4 battery, fast solar and AC charging, and 15 output ports on wheels with this model. It looks great, too, with an anthracite and metallic gray color straight out of a Marvel movie.
The Delta Pro is the size of a small suitcase, but it weighs around 99 lbs, so you might not want to lug it around by its handles on your own. You can also buy and connect up to two expansion batteries, and if you get the Double Voltage hub, you can push your output to 7200W, which is more than standard 5kW solar power systems. Batteries don't come cheap at around $2,500 each, though, so if you really need that much power, contact us, and we can recommend a better solution.
How does EcoFlow stack up against the competition?
EcoFlow was a pioneer when it came to portable power stations, but they have plenty of competition today.
The Bluetti EP500, for example, comes with a whopping 5100Wh battery and nifty recharging options. The working output is limited to around 2000W, and the battery means you need to be willing to move around a full 167 lbs when you're on the go. It's not really practical for camping.
If you really want to rough it outdoors, though, it's hard to beat the Goal Zero Yeti 3000X that can navigate sand, gravel, and grass like a dirt bike. On the downside, there are only two AC outlets.
We also like the Jackery Explorer 2000 Pro for its portability, but you only get around 2200W and a battery capacity of 2160Wh. And it's only chargeable with Solar Saga portable panels, which is a bummer if you were hoping to use a different brand that you already own.

We should also add EcoFlow is on the pricier side when you compare it to the competition, but you get more value for your money.
