Best Patriot Power Generator Alternatives - MORE Solar Power for LESS Money..
If you're looking for a solar powered generator as a source of emergency back up power, you might have heard about the Patriot Power Generator.
The Patriot Power Generator 1500 was released in late 2014 by 4Patriots, an American company based out of Nashville, TN. 4Patriots also sells survival foods, water filtration devices systems, and pocket constitutions on top of their patriot power generator. They've since launched a newer version of the 1500 called the Patriot Power Generator 1800.
At Shop Solar Kits, we stay up to date on everything that relates to DIY solar power and portable power stations. In this article, we will tell the tale of the Patriot Power Generator 1500 & 1800 as well as take a good hard look at your best alternative solar generator options. The Story Behind the Patriot Power Generator 1500 & 1800
Despite selling over 2,000 units, the Patriot Power Generator 1500 was only available on 4Patriots website from November 2014 until April 2015. The device was officially recalled in July of 2016 which left many people wondering, “What happened to the patriot power generator 1500?”
What caused the Patriot Power 1500 Recall?
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Patriot Power 1500 was recalled “Due to Fire Hazard.” Yes, that’s right, 4Patriots reportedly decided to discontinue importing the Chinese manufactured Patriot Power 1500 after 13 consumer accounts of the device catching on fire.
The CPSC stated that the patriot generators began to smoke after the batteries within the devices caught on fire. This malfunction also caused an atypical and potentially harmful odor to emit from the patriot power generator. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries or serious incidents that were caused by device failure.
The Next Patriot Power Solar Generator 1800
After the recall of the Patriot Power 1500, 4Patriots hoped to clear their name with a newer, better solar generator. What did they come up with? The Patriot Power Generator 1800. The company’s new release added a larger inverter and longer battery life to the 4Patriot Power brand. Luckily, so far, no units have been reported to have caught on fire.
Whereas the 4Patriots 1800 model is a fully capable clean energy machine, it is not perfect and also a bit expensive. To learn more, you can read our full review for the Patriot Power Generator 1800 here.
Best Patriot Power Solar Generator Alternative Options
Of course, there are many other great solar generators on the market aside from 4Patriots power generator. In fact, at a similar (or even less) price point, you can purchase a better solar power generator that is more suited towards meeting actual electricity needs in the case of an emergency situation.
Below we have outlined our top 3 alternative options for the patriot power generator. These are also three of our best-selling solar generators, each of which are clear-cut be upgrades to the Patriot Power Generator 1800 and that are ALL less $ than the patriot power generator.
A long lasting lifecycle is the primary reason that most people gravitate towards the Patriot Power Generator. At 2,500 lifecycles with the Bluetti, that is a ton of remote electricity potential (almost 7 years using it EVERY single day)!
Although the Bluetti EB240 from MaxOak is rated for the same amount of lifecycles it comes with a TON of great upgrades over the patriot power generator. at 2,400 watt hours of battery storage compared to 790 watt hours in the patriot power generator, it's almost unbelievable that the Bluetti EB240 only costs $1899 compared to $2400+ for the patriot power generator.
On top of that, they weigh almost the same amount but the Bluetti is able to handle 500 watts of solar input compared to less than 300 watts on the patriot power generator.
The Bluetti does have a smaller inverter output capacity but it's 1,000W inverter is still plenty to power everything from a fridge and tv to lights and even a small air conditioner. Considering the Bluetti’s battery is nearly 4x as large as the Patriot Power Generators and the fact you can charge it over twice as fast as the Patriot Power generator's battery, it's a no brainer to consider the Bluetti EB240 solar generator as a potential alternative to the patriot power generator.
If you do not want to sacrifice any of the premium features of the Patriot Power 1800, but want to save over $500, then you should be considering the EcoFlow Delta 1800 / 1300 . Do not let the name confuse you, because the “1300” in the Delta’s name refers to its battery’s watt hour capacity (which is roughly twice as large as the Patriot). And the Delta is rated at the same 1800W of continuous output capacity on the inverter. So you get double the battery size and the same inverter size for over $500 less than the patriot power generator...
In addition to saving a lot of money, the Delta also can save you a lot of time. The EcoFlow system has the fastest AC (wall plug) charging system to date, filling the battery capacity in less than two hours (0% to 80% in 60 minutes!!). Plus, the EcoFlow Delta solar generator comes with DC (vehicle cigarette lighter) input capabilities (the Patriot does not) for charging your system on the go.
Lastly, The marketing and included extras that come with Patriot Power Generator make it seem like it is the best option for long term off grid living. However, if you truly want to power an entire home or keep your family safe for an extended period of time, there is no better solar generator on the market than Point Zero’s Titan Solar Generator.
Yes, it is true that the Titan will cost you a bit extra upfront. But with the increased input and output capacities, you will be thankful that the Titan is there for you in case of an emergency. The Titan comes with a 2,000 watt hour battery (triple the patriot power generator) and has a modular, add-on stacking battery system, allowing you to store enormous amounts of solar power (up to 12,000 watt hours no problem).
If you like the fact that the Patriot power generator has an 1800 watt inverter, you'll love the Titan solar generators 3,000 watt inverter. With a 6,000 watt surge, there's really nothing you can't power with the Titan. When it comes to solar input, the Titan has two charge controllers each of which can handle 1,000 watts of solar. This means even if you had six 2,000 watt hour battery packs for a total of 12,000 watts - you could still recharge from 0% to 100% in less than 7 hours. You can check out Point Zero’s Titan Solar Generator here.
Final Thoughts on the Patriot Power Generator Alternatives
As you can see, it's hard to justify spending the money on the patriot power generator when there are multiple other solar generator options on the market that are more powerful and more cost effective. We would highly recommend considering one of the alternative solar generators above before pulling the trigger on a patriot power generator.
