kW To kVa Calculator

A kilowatt (kW) to kilovolt-ampere (kVA) calculator helps you convert kW, a unit of real power, to kVA, a unit of apparent power. This can be particularly helpful in the realm of electrical systems, where these units are commonly used.

Enter kilowatts: kW
Enter power factor:

Result in kilovolt-amps: kVA

How To Use the kW to kVa Calculator

1. Enter the Power in Kilowatts (kW): The first field in the calculator is typically for entering the power value in kilowatts. This is the measure of actual power in an electrical system.

2. Enter the Power Factor: The next field is for the power factor, a dimensionless number between 0 and 1. The power factor represents the ratio of real power (in kW) to apparent power (in kVA). It accounts for the difference in these two measurements due to inefficiencies in the system. If you don't know the power factor, you may need to obtain it from system specifications or by measurement. In many AC systems, the power factor can often be assumed to be around 0.8 if not known.

3. Click Calculate: After entering both the kW and power factor values, you can hit the "Calculate" button.

4. Read the Result in Kilovolt-amperes (kVA): The calculator will then convert the kW value to kVA considering the power factor you've entered. This value will be shown in the results field.

Remember, the power factor is key in this calculation. A system with a low power factor uses more apparent power (kVA) for the same amount of real power (kW), indicating less efficiency. Therefore, many systems strive to maintain a high power factor close to 1.

Please be aware that this is an approximation tool and the actual values may differ slightly due to varying conditions in an electrical system. Always verify your inputs to ensure an accurate result.
