What to look for in a solar kit?

Depending on what sort of application you're looking to use the solar kit in, you'll need to decide if you need batteries, inverter, fuses etc. or if you simply need some solar panels and charge controller to hook into an existing battery/inverter setup.

What does more solar panels do?

The more solar panels you have the more power (AKA watts) you'll be able to harness from the sun. This also means you'll be able to re-charge your batteries quicker if you drain them throughout the night. 

More solar panels is also a good way to combat living/using solar in less sunny states. If you're in California or Arizona, you can usually get away with less solar panels than someone in the PNW. 

How to figure out what size solar kit you need.

There's generally 3 things to consider when it comes to sizing a solar kit. How much power do you actually want (are you okay with getting by on less with just the basics) or do want to run everything at all times with no worries. If so, you'll need to go bigger or smaller based on your mindset.

There's also a simple equation we can use when sizing solar kits, which is total battery bank capacity divided by # of hours we want to recharge the batteries in. So for example, if you have 2 x 100ah 12V batteries (lithium) then you have approximatly 2,400 watt hours of battery - 2400/5 = 480.

So we want somewhere around 480 watts of solar panels hooked up to our 2 x 12V 100ah lithium batteries so we can charge them from 0% to 100% in 5 good sun hours.

Do these solar kits come with EVERYTHING I Need?

Most renogy solar kits only come with the solar panels, charge controller and cabling. Meaning they only include half the system. You still need to purchase batteries, inverter, cabling, fuses, disconnects and more.
